Protecting Your Freezer
Dear Kathy & Dan,
I really enjoyed Bethany's article on safeguarding your freezer during a power outage. I would like to share a tip for her Rule #2: Keep your freezer full.
Wash paper milk cartons really well and fill with water to within 2" of the top. Keep in freezer to maintain "fullness". When you need the space, just remove cap, turn upside down in garden for a little trickle watering as it thaws. [Do not consume this water because of the milk's natural bacteria that may still be in the paper or plastic.] I do not refill or refreeze the paper ones, as they may become soggy.
Most of us seem to have a never ending supply of paper milk cartons or plastic jugs.
