Spring is just around the corner and what better way to welcome it than with bright and colorful butterflies. It only takes a few ordinary kitchen items and a creative kid or two to try this super fun kitchen craft.
Tie-Dye Butterfly
Materials Needed:
Paper coffee filter
½ black pipe cleaner (trash bag twist ties work as well)
food coloring (at least 3 different colors)
water
paint brush or medicine dropper
Use a plastic tablecloth or some newspaper to cover the table. Fill an ice cube tray ½ full with water. Use food coloring to make as many different colors as you can.
Use paintbrush or medicine dropper to cover coffee filter with bright colors. Watch as the coffee filter absorbs the water and creates a tie-dye effect. Set aside on paper towels to dry completely.
Fold the ½ of a pipe cleaner in half. Fold the coffee filter accordion style in about ½” pleats. Center the pleated coffee filter into the bent end of the pipe cleaner. Twist the pipe cleaner around the filter to secure it in place.
Bend the tips of the pipe cleaner about 1/4 “ to create antennae. Fan out the butterfly wings.
Use fishing line to suspend them from the ceiling or attach to a paper plate and make a mobile.
