Slow Cooking for Meat Lovers
By Bethany Booth
Step aside veggies! No Superbowl party is complete without some sort of deliciously sticky, messy, meaty treat? Here are some slow cooker recipes that offer the finger-licking meat-mess without all of the baking stress.
The best part of these simply lip smacking recipes is that they can be prepared hours in advance which frees you up to sit back and enjoy the big game.
Slow Cooker Kalua Pig
Serves: 6
3 pound boneless pork shoulder or butt
3 tablespoons Hawaiian salt or rock salt
3 tablespoons liquid smoke
2 cups water
2 cans spinach
Prick meat at ½ inch intervals. Rub salt and liquid smoke onto the meat. Place meat in a slow cooker and slowly add water. Cook on high for at least 6 hours or overnight.
Shred meat. Turn cooker to low and add spinach 1-2 hours before serving to allow flavor to soak in.
