Homemade Air Freshener?

I don't like many commercial air fresheners...any way to make my own?

Yes! While there may be many different methods to creating your own air freshener, a simple method I found includes water, some form of alcohol, essential oils, and, of course, a spray bottle**.

Add between a few tablespoons and a cup of alcohol (rubbing alcohol, etc) to the spray bottle. Then add 20-30 drops of whatever essential oil you've chosen (such as lavender), and shake the mixture well. I thought it was interesting to learn that the alcohol ensures that the scent of the oil carries throughout the entire spray rather than just forming a layer on top. Finally, fill up the remainder of the bottle with water, and shake it again.

The only other suggestion I'd make before you go a-spritzing your entire household is to test the freshener in a small area first—some essential oils are quite potent and could potentially stain fabric and other things that it may come in contact with.

**Make sure there are no lingering chemicals in the spray bottle that you decide to use—that would be rather unfortunate.
