A Spooky Story Game

Halloween is all about spooking people out, right? Have you ever played the Halloween touchy-feely box game? There’s several variations, but the gist of them are all the same- you hide different food (or other various items) in boxes and let everyone believe they are various body parts. Pass around the boxes, or have them set up on a table as you dim the lights and tell a spooky story ;). Here is a basic version you can use (along with some suggestions of what to hide in the boxes).

Once upon a Halloween night

Living in this spooky town

Was a man who died of fright

Bearing the name of Brown.

Many and many a year has passed

Since they buried Brown away,

But his withering corpse we've here amassed

Dug up from his tomb today!

Here is his brain, which feels no pain.

A squishy tomato, a head of steamed cauliflower, or a damp sponge

Here are his eyes, frozen in surprise.

Two frozen peeled grapes or two olives

Here is his heart, nevermore to start!

A large lump of uncooked liver, or a canned halved peach

Here is his hair, once so fair!

A handful of corn silk or wet fur or yarn

A few drops of blood, the rest turned to mud!

A cup with a little catsup thinned with warm water, or a little water mixed with cornstarch

One hand all alone, rotting flesh and bone.

A damp plastic glove filled with mud or ice

Now touch his ear, which does not hear!

A dried apricot

And here is his nose, cold in his repose.

Use a soft piece of chicken bone, or a small pickle

All that's left of his skin are these worms within!

Pass around a cup filled with wet, cooked spaghetti noodles

Poor Brown is dead and withered away,

Can you guess what we really felt today?

If you want to add to the story or substitute with something different here are a few other suggestions

Baby carrots for toes

Cooked noodles for guts or intestines (or veins)

Popcorn kernels for teeth

Raisins for warts

Canned peaches for the liver

Peanut butter for ear wax

Overcooked rice for maggots

Licorice vines for rat tails

Slivered almonds for fingernails

Corn tortilla for skin

An alternative story could be that you came across a haunted house and saw a witch brewing a concoction, and somehow you were able to get ahold of her leftover ingredients. Whatever story you go with, it’s sure to be fun and spooky ;).

There are so many variations of this game, and whatever you do it’s sure to be a hit! Do you have any other ideas you could add to this list? I’d love to hear them!
