Recipes For All Your Ripening Peaches!
There are so many things to look forward to this time of year- but I’m not sure if anything can top fresh, perfectly ripe peaches! The flavor is hard to beat and it’s like eating a healthy dessert! Vitamin C, antioxidants, potassium- all great reasons to add these to your diet. Plus- they taste amazing!!
While there is absolutely nothing wrong with just eating a fresh peach off the tree (and let’s be real- some days that really is the best way to indulge in a peach!), at times it’s nice to have a little variety in our diet. And there are so many delicious ways to eat peaches!
- Chop a few peaches and add it to your cottage cheese. It sounds like such a weird combination but it totally works! And it makes for a great healthy snack!
- Serve classic peaches n’ cream. Mix a little cream with sugar and serve over peaches. (My mom buys a sweet cream that is used for ice cream mixes and we eat it with strawberries and it is DIVINE. I bet it would be amazing with peaches too!)
- Add to smoothies. Peaches just elevate the flavor of almost anything, and adding a ½ to a full cup of peaches to your morning smoothie is definitely a sweet way to start the day!
- You can also add chopped peaches to your morning bowl of oatmeal, yogurt, or even cereal! I can’t think of a better way to start the day than with a fresh peach!
- Chopped peaches are great in fruit salads- just make sure they’re not too ripe or they’ll squish all over. (Which would be tasty- but not necessarily pretty….)
In addition to these ideas, here are a few peach recipes you can add to your Cook’n to try later! - Until things cool down, this homemade Peach Sorbet looks like the perfect treat! And you don’t even need an ice cream maker!
The Best Peach Sorbet Without Ice Cream Maker
The Best Peach Sorbet Without Ice Cream Maker - simple 3 ingredient peach sorbet that tastes like summer in a bowl, with no need for an ice cream maker! Author: Lee-Ann Grace Recipe Type: Dessert Total Time: 20 minutes
Yield: ["8"]Ingredients:
Serving size: 8
Calories per serving: 130
8 ripe yellow peaches fresh or frozen (800g sliced & peeled)
200 grams sugar sugar (see notes)
1 tablespoon lemon juice tbs* lemon juice to taste (see notes)
Directions:
Slice the peaches into 8, and peel each slice.
Place peach slices in the bowl of a food processor, along with sugar and process until smooth, scraping down the sides as you go.
Once smooth, add lemon juice to taste.
Freeze for 6-7 hours, or until firm.
Notes:
* Don't add all of the lemon juice in at once - you need to add it to taste. It also may seem like a strange ingredient, but it really brings out the flavour of the peaches.
The ratio of fruit to sugar you are looking for to get the right consistency is basically 4:1 fruit to sugar. I work this out is by weight. I weigh the sliced & peeled fruit, then divide it by 4, which is the amount of sugar I add.
In this recipe, my sliced peaches weighed 800g, so divide that by 4 and you get 200g.
If you want to scale the recipe up or down, it should still be a good consistency as long as you stick with that ratio of 4:1 fruit to sugar.
*Please note that the amount of calories per serve is provided as a guide only, as ingredients and cooking methods can vary greatly*
