Apple Cider Vinegar: A POWERFUL Health-Protector

In the Natural Health newsletter that came the other day, I read an article by Dr. Melissa Gallagher talked about what a POWERFUL health-protector apple cider vinegar (ACV) is.

Since cold and flu season is around the corner (forgive me for being a damp rag), maybe we should consider some of her suggestions. I’ve talked about ACV before, but a repeat can’t hurt.

ACV, a fermented liquid made from crushed apples, has been praised for centuries for its potent medicinal properties. Today we have abundant evidence-based studies and practical tips on why and how to incorporate it into your daily routine.

From alleviating and soothing flu and cold symptoms to boosting digestion and promoting weight loss, ACV has an array of impressive health benefits. The recommended dosage is 1 tablespoon in a glass of warm water or in fruit juice twice a day—in the morning and after dinner. But if you don’t like the idea of taking it with water, try using it with your olive oil as your salad dressing.

ACV for Sore Throats: Gargling with diluted apple cider vinegar may help soothe a sore throat by creating an inhospitable environment for bacteria, reducing inflammation, and providing relief.

ACV for Sinus Congestion Relief: Inhaling steam with added apple cider vinegar may help alleviate sinus congestion and promote clearer breathing by reducing inflammation, thinning mucus, and potentially inhibiting the growth of bacteria or viruses.

ACV for Headache Relief: Apple cider vinegar may provide temporary relief from headaches when applied topically due to its potential ability to relax blood vessels and reduce inflammation. Apply a compress soaked in apple cider vinegar to potentially alleviate headaches.

ACV for Digestive Help: Apple cider vinegar supports digestion by promoting the production of digestive enzymes, stimulating stomach acid secretion, and helping to maintain a healthy gut pH balance.

ACV for Weight Management: Consuming apple cider vinegar may help reduce appetite, increase satiety, and aid in weight loss efforts.

ACV for Blood Sugar Control: Apple cider vinegar has shown potential in improving insulin sensitivity, reducing post-meal blood sugar spikes, and enhancing glucose metabolism, which can be beneficial for individuals with diabetes or insulin resistance.

ACV for Lowering Cholesterol: Some studies indicate that apple cider vinegar may help reduce cholesterol levels. Consumption of apple cider vinegar has been associated with modest reductions in LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, possibly due to its antioxidant properties and potential ability to inhibit cholesterol synthesis.

ACV as a Skin Toner: Diluted apple cider vinegar can be used as a toner to help balance the skin’s pH, reduce acne, and improve overall skin health. To learn more about the causes of skin hyperpigmentation and dark spots check out this link.

ACV as a Dandruff Treatment: Apple cider vinegar’s antifungal properties may help combat the overgrowth of yeast on the scalp, which is often associated with dandruff. It can also help restore the scalp’s pH balance, reduce itching, and promote a healthier scalp.

ACV as a Natural Deodorant: Due to its antibacterial properties, apple cider vinegar can be used as a natural deodorant to combat body odor when applied topically.

ACV to Create pH Balance: Although apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature, consuming it can have an alkalizing effect on the body by supporting the maintenance of a slightly alkaline pH balance, which is associated with overall health and well-being.

ACV for Oral Mouthwash: Apple cider vinegar can be used as a natural mouthwash to promote healthy gums, freshen breath, and combat oral bacteria.

ACV for Herpes: Apple Cider Vinegar is known to cut the time and duration of a herpes outbreak.

ACV for Sunburn Pain Relief: Apply diluted apple cider vinegar to sunburned skin to soothe and promote healing.

ACV for Bug Bite and Rash Relief: Dab apple cider vinegar onto bug bites. Applying apple cider vinegar topically to bug bites may provide relief by reducing itching, inflammation, and potentially inhibiting the growth of bacteria.

ACV for Foot Odor Control: Soaking feet in a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water can help eliminate odor-causing bacteria, neutralize foot odor, and create a less hospitable environment for fungal growth.

ACV for Toenail Fungus: The antifungal properties of apple cider vinegar may help inhibit the growth of fungi responsible for toenail fungus. Soak affected nails in a solution of apple cider vinegar and water to help combat nail fungus. For more remedies on how to combat toenail fungus click here.

ACV to Alleviate Foot and Leg Cramps: Apple cider vinegar’s potassium content and potential role in enhancing electrolyte absorption may help prevent or alleviate leg cramps. Consume apple cider vinegar to reduce the frequency and intensity of leg cramps.

ACV for Hemorrhoid Relief: Apply apple cider vinegar topically to hemorrhoids to potentially reduce itching and inflammation.

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your immune system, alleviate joint pain, or even enhance your hair and skin health, apple cider vinegar is a powerful (and very affordable) resource.
