3 Things You're Gonna 'Like'
1) We're Counting ALL of Your 'Likes' Now
When my kids came over for Sunday dinner, they were talking about how much fun they are having finding delicious new recipes in Cook'n and posting their Made recipes to the Recently Made ticker on the Discover View in Cook'n.
And, of course, my son, Jackson bragged and taunted the other kids about how he is still #1 on the Likes per Recipe Made Leaderboard. We all laughed about it and had such a fun time chatting about his so-called masterful cooking abilities. But then, he complained that the 'Likes' he was getting on the Discover view in Cook'n were not counting...and, he wasn't happy about it!
I tried it and realized that he was right! I made the following screen recording for my programmers to show them the problem.
As you can see in this screen recording, I tap the thumbs-up icon on the "Baked Potato Soup" recipe to 'Like' it and the number of 'Likes' increments from 1 to 2 and the icon turns black. But, when I refresh the Discover View by dragging it down, the thumbs-up icon returns to normal and, instead of 2 'Likes,' the recipe only has 1.
I assigned a Cook'n Elf to fix this and he did that same day! Fortunately, the problem was in the Cloud so we could fix this issue without having to publish and app update.
Apparently, this problem was created by accident when we added the new features that I described in the August 16 issue of the Cook'n Newsletter.
So, if it seems like your Recently Made recipes weren't getting as many 'Likes' as you expected lately, this is probably why! Since we fixed this problem a few days ago, I noticed that the Recently Made recipes have more 'Likes' now. The Cook'n Elves and I are sorry for this hiccup!
2) A recipe you're gonna 'Like!'
As I mentioned earlier this year, my son, Andan, finished his Senior year of High School football and is looking forward to playing quarterback for BYU when he returns from his 2-year church mission to Mexico. Before he left on his mission, all he wanted to do was throw the football.
My throwing shoulder was so sore from an injury I suffered back in my quarterback days but I figured that this was my last son and I would have the rest of my life to heal up my shoulder. So, even though it was hurting, I kept throwing with him.
That was probably a bad idea because it has been 7 months since then and my shoulder has been hurting ever since and it's just not getting better. For some unknown reason, it hurts the worst at night. It hurts and throbs like a toothache and wakes me! It also hurts whenever Kathy asks me to do honey-do's around the house. It's the weirdest thing! 😂😂😂 And, I refuse to take pain medicine because...that's how I roll.
Kathy finally persuaded me to get an MRI. I went to see the doctor this morning to get the results. And, since the doctor's office is in Provo which is near where my Mom lives, I decided to go visit her. I figured that she would like the visit...but I also happened to know that she made Golumki (stuffed cabbage) yesterday.
As I mentioned last week, my Mom is Polish and makes some of the best Polish food you've ever tasted! It has been years since I've had Golumki so I just had to swing by for lunch...

While I was there, she showed me the 17 dolls she made for her great grandchildren for Christmas. Way to go Mom!!
3) BYU Football Team Serves the Community
Since you mentioned the BYU football team...😉
A couple weeks ago, I shared a story about the #11 ranked, undefeated BYU football team hanging the Signs of Pride posters that I made on the back of the bathroom doors to help the players stay humble. Since the posters hanging in my bathroom are pretty janky, I asked Kalani's Chief of Staff if he would print a few extra posters for me.
My son, Carson, and I went to the BYU football practice yesterday to pick up the posters they made for us. While we were there, we got to participate in one of the coolest things I've ever been a part of.
At the end of practice, the players gathered around a special guest who had some kind of sickness or terminal illness (kinda like the Make-a-Wish Foundation). The team showed sincere empathy about the challenge he is facing and encouraged him to continue moving forward with faith.
Then, they cheered him on in a way that only a football team can and gave him some BYU swag. The Cos was there. It was awesome.
As you can tell from the spirit and loving tone in this video, Kalani has really created something special here. This culture...this program...there’s nothing quite like it. As I mentioned before, the fans are following his lead with Christ-like behavior never before seen in college sports. I’m grateful to be part of this movement.
Also, even after that miraculous, epic win at the last second last week and even though they’re undefeated and ranked #11 in the nation, BYU is the underdog in the upcoming game. Vegas is betting they’ll lose tomorrow against UCF. No sir!! Let’s Go COUGS!!
Oh...and the posters came out looking pretty cool, don't you think?
