Sync Smart Folders

QUESTION:

I had made this request of your Cook’n Elves on several occasions i.e. that it would be most useful if all of the new recipes I’ve added would appear in all of the Smart Folders: Recently Added Recipes.

What appears in the folder on my iPhone which I use when shopping is not the same as the folder on my computer. This enhancement would make it quicker for me to find new recipe rather than trying to remember where I put the recipe when I saved it.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Chuck

ANSWER:

Hi Chuck,

It's really great to hear from you. Thank you so much for taking the time to send this feedback to me!

Years ago, when we added the Smart Folder feature to Cook'n, we actually had a lengthy discussion about this very issue.

I'm with you! I thought it would be super helpful to have the Recently Viewed and Recently Added recipe information accessible across all platforms and devices.

However, the challenge we faced is that, in order to keep the Smart Folders synchronized across all platforms, each time the user viewed a recipe, for example, a sync operation would need to take place. The recipe viewed would need to be synced up to the Cook'n Cloud and then that information would need to be synced down from the Cloud to all the other devices on the account.

As you can imagine, if the user clicked from one recipe to the next to the next, viewing one recipe after another, which is often the case, the number of sync operations could become significant. In addition to possibly bogging down our server, we get charged for every read/write operation to the Cook'n Cloud too. So, this could become costly.

Finally, we realized that, in other applications, recently opened document information is not synced from one device to another. So, we figured it would probably be acceptable to not sync this information as well.

But, at some point, perhaps we should revisit this.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again for sharing this with us!

Best wishes!

Dan
