False and Misleading

QUESTION:

"With regard to the claim you make in the following article, "I'm confused Take this step so you Don't Lose Your Recipes!. When I get a new iPhone, I can always transfer all the information from my old phone to my new phone. Are you saying that unless I subscribe to Cook'n Cloud, my recipes won't transfer like all of my other app's data transfers? If that's not true and my recipes will actually transfer, then your statement "If you get one of the new iPhones and rid of your old phone without backing up your recipes to the Cook'n Cloud, your recipes will disappear!" is false and misleading. If it is true, then I'm not sure I disagree with the 1-star rating." -Bill

ANSWER:

Great question, Bill. I am glad you asked this because there are probably other people who are wondering the same thing. In your comment, you said "...all of my other app's data transfers." The fact is, all of your other app's data does NOT transfer. For example, if you have 15 audio books downloaded to your Audible app on your old phone, those books will not appear in your Audible app on your new phone. If you have 10 movies downloaded to the Prime Video app on your old phone, those videos will not appear in the Prime Video app on your new phone.

The app data transfers from one device to another ONLY for the apps that use iCloud. The Audible app and the Prime Video app do not use iCloud and neither does Cook'n. The reason is because Audible, Prime Video, Cook'n, and many others work on all platforms including Android, PC, Mac, Alexa, Web, etc. and these platforms do not all have access to iCloud.

Instead, the Cook'n apps rely on the Cook'n Cloud to sync their data. We charge a fee for access to the Cook'n Cloud because we must pay a fee each month to store your recipes in the Cloud...and all those food photos take up a lot of space! The Capture & Scan features also rely on web services that come with costs. Plus, our amazing team of programmers and tech support agents work hard every day to make Cook'n the best app it can be—and they deserve to be paid for their efforts!

We don’t get tax money or donations to pay our bills, and we’ve chosen to keep third-party ads out of Cook'n to create a better experience for you. We would love to offer these services to all of our customers for free...but if we did that, who would pay the bills? Am I missing something here?

Dan
