1. Remove the core and a thin slice from the top and bottom of each tomato and discard. Cut the tomatoes into slices 1/2–3/4 inch thick and place on a lightly oiled baking sheet.
2. Combine the oil and garlic in a cup or small bowl and brush on the tomato slices. Sprinkle with salt, if desired.
3. Place the tomatoes under a preheated broiler for about 3–5 minutes, or until they are hot and bubbly. Be careful not to overcook. Garnish with basil and oregano, and serve immediately.
