Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and baking soda. Blend egg and buttermilk together and add to the flour mixture. Mix just until moistened. Allow mixture to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Pour mixture into prepared pan.
Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool on a wire rack.
For best flavor, wrap in foil for several hours or overnight before serving.
