1. Place the olive oil and garlic in a large bowl, and stir to combine. Add the diced tomatoes and salt, and stir lightly. Cover and let stand at room temperature for 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
2. Stir in the basil and serve immediately, surrounding the bowl with the melba toast or French bread slices.
