Small sprays of fresh or dried greenery (juniper, pine, eucalyptus, dusty miller) Rust or moss green candles Wooden or pewter candle holders Squashes in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, washed and dried Assorted nuts in shells Vegetable oil Small rust-colored dried strawflowers At least 2 hours before using: On table, sideboard or mantelpiece, arrange a base of greenery about 10 to 12 inches wide. The length will depend upon the area being decorated. If desired, use candles in candle holders for height. Place squashes in clusters or like a garland winding over greenery, alternating colors and shapes. Place larger ones towards center. (Small immature squashes picked just before first frost are interesting in this arrangement.) Lightly coat nuts with oil and arrange in clusters throughout the greenery. Tuck in flowers. If using on a table or sideboard, coordinate the color of a coarse homespun tablecloth or runner with the candles and arrangement.
