In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add almond extract, flour, and salt. Beat until just mixed. Refrigerate to chill. Shape into 1-inch balls, roll in sesame seeds, press a cherry half on top, and bake on greased cookie sheets in preheated 400° oven for about 10 minutes. Let them sit in the oven for another 2–3 minutes, then put them on a rack to cool.
