One of my fondest memories is from when I was a little girl. My mother had an Advent calendar that she brought out the day after Thanksgiving as we started decorating for Christmas. My brother and I would admire it and couldn’t wait for December 1st to come around! The calendar was made of cardboard with lots of bright colors. It was shaped like a house and each day of December, another decoration was added to complete the holiday scene. Each piece would have the day of the month on it, and when completed it would make a beautiful picture of a family surrounding a Christmas tree in their home. Every morning my brother and I would race down the stairs to see who would be able to attach the next piece first. Day after day this
continued until Christmas Eve. This day had the best piece of all...the Christmas tree! After many years of use, a new Advent calendar was bought to replace this one. Looking back, we didn’t realize at the time how much we would all remember and cherish the original one.
