Combine shortening, butter or margarine, sugars, egg and vanilla in a large mixing bowl beat at medium speed until mixed thoroughly. In a small bowl, blend flour, baking soda and salt add to shortening mixture. Mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned but still soft. Cool on wire racks.
