Rainy Weather Solutions
As we head into another spring of unpredictable weather, here's some plans to cover the "Mom, I'm bored" syndrome.
Silhouettes
Items Needed:
- Black paper
- Bright lamp
- Stool or chair
- White chalk, colored pencil, or crayon
Set up a stool or chair near a blank wall. Seat your child on the stool, so his profile runs parallel with the wall. Position the lamp so it shines directly on the face, creating a shadow. Tape black paper to the wall, so the profile shadow falls upon it. Move the lamp back until the shadow fits onto the paper. Trace around the shadow with the white chalk. Remove the paper and cut out the silhouette. Paste it onto colored paper and post it for all to see. Make and showcase a family gallery of silhouettes.
Memorabilia Memory Game
Items Needed:
- 25 miscellaneous objects
- cookie sheet or tray
- towel
- paper
- pencils
Arrange 25 miscellaneous objects on the tray and cover with the towel. Give each member a piece of paper and a pencil. Uncover the tray for 25 seconds. Cover it up and have family members test their memory by writing down a list of the objects that they remember seeing. For conversation starters, use objects that mean something to you (medals, badges, ribbons, pictures, sentimental items, and so forth). Alternatively, simply gather household items such as lightbulbs, fingernail clippers, a blade of grass, can opener, rock, comb, bowl, fork, nail, etc.
