Mix flour and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Combine egg yolk with water to measure 2?3 cup. Add to flour mixture; mix well. Roll half the dough to fit a 10x15-inch baking pan. Fit over bottom and sides of pan. Sprinkle with cornflakes. Layer apples over cornflakes. Sprinkle with lemon juice and mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Top with remaining pastry. Seal edges; slash top. Brush with slightly beaten egg white. Bake at 350° for 50 minutes. Mix powdered sugar and milk in bowl. Drizzle over top while warm. Cool. Cut into bars. Yields 36 bars. Can do ahead; easy; can freeze.
