Make 1 ½-Pound Recipe with bread machines that use 3 cups flour, or make 2-Pound Recipe with bread machines that use 4 cups flour.
Measure carefully, placing all ingredients in bread machine pan in the order recommended by the manufacturer.
Select Whole Wheat or Basic/White cycle. Use Medium or Light crust color. Do not use delay cycles Remove baked bread from pan, and cool on wire rack.

We mix whole wheat flour with bread flour to combine the best traits of both flours in one loaf. The whole wheat flour adds a wholesome nuttiness to the bread and the bread flour contains lots of gluten, so it gives the bread volume and a nice texture. Bread made with just whole wheat flour won't rise as high, since the flour doesn't have as much gluten-forming protein. We recommend using about half bread flour in bread recipes.

Whole wheat bread is good with just butter, but you'll love the crunchiness of this Lemon Poppy Seed Butter. Using an electric mixer beat a stick of softened margarine butter with 1 tablespoon finely shredded lemon peel and 1 teaspoon poppy seed, until it is light and airy. This will give you about ½ cup butter to enjoy.
