Grease and flour tube pan. Using large mixing bowl, cream butter and confectioners’ sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix flour with granulated sugar and baking powder. With mixer, gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture alternately with eggs, one at a time. Add 1 tablespoon milk, beating 4–5 minutes. Add vanilla and food colorings. Bake in 250° oven for 2 1/2 hours. Turn out of pan and cool slightly before glazing.
Glaze:
Melt butter; remove from heat. Stir in sugar and water. Add food colorings and vanilla. Mix well. Add more water, if needed. Spread on slightly cooled cake.
