In a medium bowl, lightly beat egg. Add mashed potatoes, cheese, flour, onion, garlic salt and pepper, stirring until well blended.
Place crumbs on a piece of waxed paper.
With floured hands, shape one-fourth of the potato mixture into a 4-inch diameter patty. Coat both sides of patty with crumbs set aside. Repeat with remaining potato mixture and crumbs.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook patties in margarine until crusty and browned on each side. Reduce heat if patties are browning too quickly. Serve immediately or place, uncovered, in a preheated 200° oven to keep warm.
