In a small saucepan mix gelatin and whipping cream let stand for 1 minute. Add sugar. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. (Do not dissolve gelatin completely.) Chill until slightly thickened.
Add sour cream and vanilla to gelatin mixture, blending well. Pour into sherbet or parfait glasses and chill until set.
To serve, top with fruit.
