Island Splendor Punch

Ingredients

1/2 cup water
1/3 cup sugar
2 (1/4-inch) slices fresh ginger
2 (6-inch) sticks cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
1 (64-ounce) carton pineapple-orange-banana juice concentrate
1 (6-ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
1/2 (2-liter) bottle Sprite, chilled
3 cups light-colored rum (optional)

Directions:

Bring water, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves to a boil; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Transfer to a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours.

Strain spices from sugar syrup. Mix sugar syrup, pineapple-orange-banana juice, and lemonade concentrate in punch bowl. Slowly pour Sprite and rum, if desired, down the side of punch bowl; stir to mix. Serve over crushed ice.
