Carefully peel pears. Slice each in half lengthwise and remove core. Do not break pear in the process. Set aside. Mix remaining ingredients according to taste. The mixture should have enough nuts to look pretty and provide enough crunch and enough powdered sugar to be slightly sweetened. Carefully stuff mixture into each pear half. Put stuffed pear halves together to form each whole pear again and wrap individually with plastic wrap. Store in covered container in refrigerator until serving time; preferably serve within 12 hours. To serve, place 1 pear in stemmed sherbet glass, pour warmed Chocolate Sauce over top, and sprinkle with crushed pecans, if desired.
Chocolate Sauce:
In double boiler melt margarine and chocolate. Gradually add sugar. Stir constantly and blend well. Add canned milk. Blend well. Cook 10 minutes or until chocolate forms soft ball (has some body) when small amount is dropped in cup of cool water. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Cool. Serve warm over pears. Store in refrigerator.
