1. Grate or sliver the wax.
2. Place the wax in the top of a double boiler. Stir in the petroleum jelly, olive oil, and lanolin, and cook over simmering water, stirring occasionally, until the wax and lanolin liquefy and are well blended with the petroleum jelly and olive oil. Turn off the heat, but keep the pan over the hot water.
3. Combine the water, lemon juice, and benzoic acid powder in a small saucepan. Place over very low heat and bring to a bare simmer, stirring constantly.
4. Drizzle the hot lemon juice mixture into the hot wax mixture, stirring continually. Beat vigorously until the mixture begins to cool. Then beat in the oil of lemon.
5. Pour the cleanser into a wide-mouthed jar with a lid.
6. To use, first steam your pores open by soaking a washcloth in hot water, wringing it out, and applying it to your face. Repeat several times. Then, avoiding the area around your eyes, smooth the cleanser over your face, concentrating on any particularly oily spots. Wait at least 2 minutes before removing with a tissue. Finish with a hot water steam to remove every trace of oil, and close your pores with a splash of cool water.
