1. Chop the bell pepper.
2. Peel and chop the onion.
3. Slice the mushrooms.
4. Brown the ground beef and sausage in a frying pan and drain off the excess fat. Transfer the meat to a large pot.
5. Stir the remaining ingredients into the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer covered for a minimum of 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Important tip
The longer this sauce simmers, the thicker and richer it will become. Stir every 5 to 10 minutes to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pot.3
