The very first cookbook issued by General Mills's predecessor, the Washburn Crosby Company, was Miss Parloa's New Cook Book, A Guide to Marketing and Cooking, published in 1880. Maria Parloa was a noted cooking instructor at the Boston Cooking School, and she had quite an extensive list of necessary kitchen equipment. Among those nearly 100 necessary items were a fish kettle, a larding needle, a trussing needle, a variety of flour barrels and covers, a pail for cleaning, a blacking brush, and a bean pot. How many of those do you have in your kitchen?
