Lightly toast almonds Cool, then finely chop set aside.
In a small mixer bowl at medium speed, beat butter or margarine and cream cheese until smooth and fluffy. At low speed, beat in milk, sherry and onion salt until blended. Gradually beat in Swiss cheese, then almonds until well blended. Mound into a serving bowl or pack in a crock. Let stand for 30 minutes to develop flavor. Serve or cover and chill up to 2 weeks.
If chilled, remove spread from refrigerator and let stand to soften before serving. Serve with crackers or fruit.
