Prepare cake mix according to directions using butter instead of oil. Bake 1/2 of batter in 9x13-inch pan in 350° oven for 15 minutes. In a pan, melt caramels and evaporated milk. Pour over cake; add chocolate chips and nuts. Cover with remaining cake batter. Bake 350° for 20–25 minutes.
