In a large stockpot, combine potatoes and 4 cups milk season with salt and pepper. Heat mixture over medium-high heat for 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender. In a medium mixing bowl, blend butter and flour together add egg and remaining milk. Drop by teaspoonfuls into potato mixture. Cover and cook an additional 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
