Place roast in an ungreased large roasting pan; sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Mix remaining ingredients. If mixture is too sweet, add vinegar, about one teaspoon at a time. Pour over roast. Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 4 hours, basting occasionally.
