Total time:
Mix all ingredients, pour into 2 well-greased and floured 9-inch cake pans, and bake at 325° for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely before removing from pans. The layers will be thin.
For Filling:
Melt butter in top of double boiler. Blend in flour, stir in whipped cream, and cook until thick. Cool. Add sugar and nuts. Spread mixture between layers of torte.
For Icing:
Ice top and sides of torte with whipped cream, and sprinkle top with chopped nuts.
When hand-chopping is required, nuts are easier to chop after heating in the microwave on a paper plate on high for two minutes, or in a baking pan in a 325° oven about five minutes. (Toasted nuts taste better, too.)
