2 pounds sausages
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 egg beaten
1/2 cup milk
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Form sausage into 12 patties and brown lightly in fry pan. Drain and pat with paper towel to remove grease. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar in mixing bowl; cut in shortening. Add milk and egg and stir just enough to moisten. Roll out on slightly floured board. Cut squares of dough and wrap around each sausage patty. Place on greased baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or till pastry is golden brown. Serve with catsup or chili sauce. Makes 12 sausage rolls.
Variation: Use pie dough in place of shortcake dough.
