Tomato Corn Chowder

Ingredients

2 slices bacon diced
1 onion diced
1 (1-pound) can cream style corn
2 cups potatoes, diced
1 (1-pound) can tomato
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 cups water boiling
1 cup half and half

Directions:

In heavy saucepan fry bacon until golden brown (2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine may be substituted). Add onion and cook without browning for 5 minutes. Add vegetables (whole kernel corn may be substituted for cream-style corn), sugar, and seasonings. Add water and cook slowly until potatoes are tender. Remove from heat and slowly stir in half-and-half (undiluted evaporated milk may be substituted). Reheat slightly, if necessary.
