Mix sugar, flour and cake spice together in a large bowl. Blend in eggs, oil, prunes and vanilla; mix thoroughly. Stir in pecans, if desired. Pour batter into a greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately one hour, until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool on wire rack.
