Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a frying pan, brown ground beef, onion, and garlic until meat is no longer pink. Drain if necessary. Spread meat mixture into bottom of a greased 8 x 8 or 9 x 9-inch pan. Lay asparagus evenly over meat mixture. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over asparagus. Bake uncovered for 15–20 minutes, or until thoroughly heated.
*Instant mashed potatoes work well here.
