Use a 3-quart crockpot. Open beans and drain as much liquid off as possible. Put beans, onion, garlic, ketchup, and brown sugar in crockpot and cook on high for about 3 hours. Turn down to low for an additional hour. Caution: keep an eye on the liquid; don’t let it go dry. Add a little water only if they look dry.
