Shred cabbage and soak in ice water 1/2 hour or longer. Drain thoroughly. Dice bacon and fry until crisp. Remove bacon with slotted spoon and add onions, vinegar, water, sugar, salt, and pepper to drippings. Bring to boil and pour over cabbage. Sprinkle bacon over top and garnish with slices of hard-cooked egg.
