* Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add butter and blend with a fork or pastry blender until texture of cornmeal. Add milk and egg, stirring just to moisten. Cherry Cobbler Filling:
*Heat oven to 400° F. Combine cherries, 1/2 cup sugar, and cornstarch. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and clear. Stir in butter. Pour into 8-inch square baking dish. Drop cobbler dough by spoonfuls onto hot fruit filling. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 20 minutes.
