Sauté onion in 2 tablespoons butter in dutch oven. Add broth and seasoning. Bring to a boil; add broccoli; simmer, covered, till tender.
Melt remaining 4 tablespoons butter in medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and continue to stir for 1–2 minutes. Whisk in milk and buttermilk; stir till thickened. Add to chicken broth in dutch oven. Add cubed cheese and continue to stir until very hot and cheese is melted but do not BoIl. Garnish with sour cream, if desired.
