Cream margarine, sugar, vanilla, and egg together. Add sour cream and citrus soft drink. Sift the dry ingredients into the margarine mixture and combine.
Chill dough in fridge for at least four hours. (Chilling the dough not only makes it easier to work with, but also gives it more flavor.)
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Roll the dough into 1/4-inch diameter ropes, then cut into 3- to 4-inch long strips. Form the strips into pretzel shapes and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet, 1 inch apart.
Bake 6 to 8 minutes. They will be a light brown when you remove them.
Top with Cream Cheese Frosting (see Desserts chapter), jelly, or custard.
VARIATIONS: Add 1/3 cup chopped nuts, berries, or butterscotch chips. Or add 1/2 teaspoon orange extract or the zest of half an orange to the dough.
