Cut off the bottom part of the asparagus stalks as necessary to remove any tough fiber. Slice them in 2-inch lengths and sauté in oil or butter until almost tender. Toast the sesame seeds by stirring them in a frying pan over fairly high heat. Then add a little oil or butter and the bread crumbs, and stir together until well blended. Pour this mixture over the hot asparagus, season with salt and pepper, and stir gently until the asparagus is well coated with the seeds and bread crumbs. Serve immediately.
Note: This does wonders for broccoli and cauliflower, too!
