Preheat oven to 350°. Break bread into chunks and soak in milk for about 15 minutes. Crush with hands until well mixed. Combine and beat well eggs, sugar, vanilla, and fruit. Pour these ingredients over the soaked bread and stir them lightly with a fork until well blended. Pour the margarine into 2 (1-quart) casseroles. Pour the bread pudding into the 2 casseroles. Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Allow to cool. Serve with Whiskey Sauce.
Whiskey Sauce:
Put margarine, sugar, and water in top of double boiler and cook until sugar is dissolved. Add egg and whip quickly so that egg does not curdle. Cook for 1 minute to ensure egg is well done, stirring constantly. Cool. Add whiskey. The pudding and sauce taste best at room temperature.
Fun Fact: The prime-time soap, Dallas, which ran from 1978 to 1991, was set in Texas but primarily filmed in California. Southfork, the Ewing family mansion, is a real Texas home near Dallas, and many exterior shots were filmed there. Some of the filming was done in Dallas skyscrapers. Opening credits unscrolled over Texas fields, cattle, and oil wells.
