1. Heat water to lukewarm then stir in baking soda.
2. Add raw peanuts and bring to a boil. Then simmer, covered, until completely softened (about 1 1/2 hours).
3. Add brown sugar and cook, stirring, until dissolved. Serve hot, in small bowls.
