Cranberry Conserve

Serves: 5

   2 cups water
   2 cups brown sugar
   2 12-ounce packages cranberries
   4 oranges peeled and chopped
   1 tablespoon orange peel grated
   2 apples, pared and chopped
   1 cup walnuts chopped


Mix water and brown sugar in heavy saucepan; bring to boil. Stir in cranberries, chopped oranges, orange rind, and chopped apples. Cook rapidly for 20 minutes. Stir in nuts. Pour into sterilized jars. Cover tightly and cool. Refrigerate or freeze no longer than 3 months. Makes 5 half-pint jars. Serve as accompaniment to poultry or as spread for toast, crackers, or bread.
