Scald milk. Add cold water. Dissolve yeast cakes in warm water add to milk. Add shortening, sugar, and salt. Add flour. Mix and knead until elastic. Let rise until doubled punch down. Let rest 10 minutes then shape into loaves in greased pans. Let rise again and bake at 400°F for 40 minutes.
