Put all of the ingredients, except the sliced orange and cherries, into a bar shaker or a 2-cup pitcher half filled with cracked ice. Cover and shake about 20 seconds, or stir briskly with a long-handled spoon. Serve over ice or strain into a sour glass or a wine glass. Garnish each glass with an orange slice and a cherry.
NOTE: To crack ice cubes, put them in a heavy plastic bag, remove air from the bag, seal it, then put the bag on a cutting board. With a hammer or heavy rolling pin, gently break cubes into chips.
