Place cubed bread in a 9x13-inch baking dish. (You can try and dress it up with sourdough, etc., but the most inexpensive white bread, left on the counter to get stale, works the best.) Mix in chocolate chips. In a separate bowl, blend milk, sugar, eggs, salt, and cinnamon. Pour over bread. Place baking dish in a larger pan of hot water (1-inch) and bake at 350° for 40–45 minutes, until browned and knife inserted into middle comes out clean. Serve hot in a bowl with a little milk poured over the top, if desired (half our family likes it with milk, half just plain).
