Combine 1/4 cup butter, guava jelly, lemon juice, sugar, and salt in the top of a double boiler. Heat until the guava jelly has dissolved. Stir a part of this into slightly beaten yolk, then return the egg mixture to the rest of the jelly mixture. Heat and stir until the mixture thickens. Add nuts. Remove from heat and cool.
Sift flour, salt, and soda over brown sugar and remaining 1/2 cup butter. Cut together with 2 knives until coarse crumbs form. Add oatmeal and mix well. Pat half of the mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch-square pan. Spread guava mixture on top and sprinkle remaining oatmeal mixture on top. Bake in a 350° oven for 25 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
